About Joshua Howell

I have completed a Diploma of Digital Media and Diploma of IT, both at distinction level. However, for the past few years I have primarily been self taught and learnt most of what I know about web development from experience and online information.

HTML and CSS are second nature. I know enough PHP and javascript to keep my out of trouble but not enough to write anything from scratch. I'm proficient Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, Acrobat.

I consider myself to be a web developer rather than a web designer because I spend more of my time developing websites than designing them. When i think about more, it's not so much development as it is assembly but I don't think many people are using the label "website assembler" these days.

I do like to a little graphic design from time to time. Logo design is always so challenging to do to a high level (not very hard to do to a low level, as can be seen on most small business stationary). I think the main barriers for me when designing are; finding a place to start and overthinking things (oh and deadlines/presure is always a creativity killer).

I spent far too much of my childhood /adolescence playing computer games but thoroughly enjoyed it at the time. Some of my favourite games (and consequently the ones that racked up the most hours of play time) would have to be; Worms, Diablo 2 (and the expansion), World of Warcraft. Other games I enjoyed were; Carmageddon, Unreal Tournament, Doom, Quake, Warcraft 3, Half Life, Dungeon Keeper, and so many more.

Another wasted pastime of mine was movies. I must have watched hundreds of videos (you know those things that were around before DVDs) as a teenager, especially in the genres of horror, comedy, sci-fi, action and anime. Some of my favourite movies would include; Evil Dead trilogy, Robin Hood - men in tights, The Matrix (of course), Akira.

Other things that interest me (but which I unfortunately have little time for these days) include; reading, Philosophy, walking, the human brain, thinking and pondering, building things with my hands -like furniture and that sort of stuff, and trying to understand my existence and how it relates to rest of the universe.
